Quarter 1 - Lesson 2:
On
Quantity - Magnitude of Influence - Learning to Measure - Part 1
This lesson is the first of two
lectures that introduces the concept of measurement of planetary forces.
If we would ask, "On
what does chart interpretation depend?" On our ability to judge. And what
forms the practical basis upon which our judgment depends? On our
ability to measure. And what is it that we measure? The planetary forces
present.
We measure Quantity, that is how
much of a particular influence is present and Quality or the refinement or
coarseness of that planetary influence.
Every Horoscope is composed of the
same basic components: Signs, Planets, and Houses. The ONLY THING that
changes is the admixture and relationships. What varies is Quantity, Quality,
and Relationships.
This lesson will stress those
basic techniques that allow us to measure QUANTITY, that is, how much of a
particular planetary influence is present in a chart.
The quantity of a planet's
influence is determined primarily by its house position, that its placement in a
so-called angular, succedent, or cadent house. Using a scale from zero to 100%,
we may say that a planet's placement in an angular house will have a very strong impact
on the person throughout their life. Whether that will be helpful or of a harm will depend
on the planet's basic nature and several additional factors.
This need to measure planetary forces present
will be our ongoing task, a process to which we must
become habituated.
