Quarter 3 - Lesson 1:
Deepening Basic Skills: More on Zodiacal State, The Lights, and Other Topics

We begin our new Quarter with a review of ForumOnAstrology's program goals and a review of the basic concepts for zodiacal state. We examine in much greater depth those factors that determine the quality of a planet includes a consideration of the relevance of a planet's basic nature versus its zodiacal state when it comes to the realization of the affairs of a house.

As many old traditions teach and Mason echoed, our fight in life is for values. If the state of the planets in a chart are good you have the possibility that your values are higher and at given times you may lower your values. With good zodiacal state, you expect advantages. As Mason would say, if your planets are in a good zodiacal state, you feel your values are on a higher level, be it ethically, be it practically

Every planet in a good zodiacal state can give the good side, the higher values. Zoltan Mason mentioned that a bad zodiacal state can harm the space element. The bad comes out not in the form of deprivation but eventually with the too much of the same. There is enjoyment without the ability to tell how far we want to go.

In a bad zodiacal state, the nature of the planet comes out just as well as good zodiacal state but we may also harm the time element. Each planet only gives tendencies in conformity to its own nature. With the bad zodiacal state the tendencies are accelerated and more potent. In each horoscope a planet in a sign is either in a good or bad zodiacal state.

The quarter's second half which deals with a consideration of the Sun and the Moon. If we want to put the Lights into context with the rest of the chart, we must consider - as Mason would say - that "People are shortsighted and are interested only in today tomorrow". "The long range goals are connected to the zodiacal signs and the most important planet for that is the Sun as the Sun shows how are going to bring out the forces in you and especially the life force of the Moon".

We consider the Moon deals with what is called the inner cosmos, the soul. how could you approach it on a physical level? Mason pointed out that it is the instincts in us that disturb us or what disturbs our inner peace, and that the whole intelligence of the cosmos per se is connected with the Moon. The true intelligence is the Moon, the instincts; Mercury is the intelligence of book learning. Knowing this, we always consider and measure everything in astrology two ways from the viewpoint of quality and quantity.
