Quarter 5 - Lesson 1:
An Overview of Forecasting Techniques and an Introduction to Transits

The foundation of all forecasting is based on the revival of the sky's influences as detected in the natal. Regardless of forecasting technique employed, symbolic or reality-based, it is TIME (in one fashion of another) that REVIVES or manifests latent potential of what already exists in the natal chart. Lesson 1 of Quarter 5 is an overview on the concept of forecasting in general and an introduction to transits.

Transits are a reliable timing method based on the relationship of the current sky to the natal chart. Drawing on the tradition of Morin de Villefranche, the lesson illustrates how interpretation of a planet's passage over a point in the natal chart depends on the ability to understand its meaning within the context of the natal chart. The most important consideration before we employ any forecasting technique is to first become acquainted with the natal.

You must know how strongly a person is motivated so that you may know what may be expected as a possibility in the natal, and that knowledge is taken from the natal. With this in mind, we introduce the basic structural elements of the Transit technique.

Contents for this Quarter - On Transits - and the following quarter, Quarter 6 - On Solar and Lunar Revolutions - are drawn respectively from Books 23 and 24 of Morin's Astrologia Gallica. Both volumes have been translated from the Latin by James Holden and are available from the AFA or Astroamerica bookstores.
