Quarter 6 - Lesson 1: Introduction to Revolutions
Foreknowlege, or what we may speculate about in terms of the nature of the events during a person's
lifetime is based on the natal horoscope, but the timing of those events - from
Morin's viewpoint - depends on three traditional techniques: Primary
Directions, Solar Returns, and Transits.
Quarter 6 covers the topic of Revolutions or what is called today, Returns. The
lecture series focuses on Solar Returns and Lunar Returns as a means to forecast
events during a given year or lunar month. Our content is drawn from
Morin de Villefranche's 23rd Book entitled, "Revolutions".
We demonstrate the three-step process of delineating a return by starting with
an examination of the natal, followed by a similar inspection of the return, and
then bringing the two together. We then note what natal configurations are repeated
through similarity in the return. Repetition is the key to effective and
reliable forecasting when employing returns.
A return's similarity of configuration with the natal through repetition can be expressed many ways.
Investigation begins by observing what connections may exist between solar planets and the natal planets
and houses; this is followed by a consideration of how the natal planets are connected to the
solar planets and houses. The process is completed by considering how (as Morin
phrases it) natal planets are "translated" to the return chart.
Revolutions (which are an extension of Transits that add complexity through the
need to take into account both the Natal and Return houses) provide the
practitioner with a technique that gives deep
insight into a person's yearly or monthly events and provides a practical basis
on which to give counsel.
And from a practical viewpoint, Solar Returns are
literally the "bread and butter" of a professional astrologer's practice as they
encourage clients to return year after year. And that in turn permits the
professional to build his or her practice.
