Quarter 7 - Lesson 1: On Primary Directions - An Introduction and Overview
Primary Directions are a forecasting tool that has its
roots in a time that predates and were already in use during the time of Christ
or at the beginning of the common era. The expression "Primary Direction" is in
some sense a generic term as there are several ways to calculate them but all
variations of the technique are based on the rotation of the celestial sphere.
We place this topic in context with the other traditional forecasting techniques,
the transits and the solar revolutions and then proceed to give Morin's definition
of the primary direction as drawn from his Book 22 titled "Directions".
While no math is required for this quarter, the topic does depends on a conceptual
understanding of the celestial sphere. We begin by noting and then illustrating
that a natal chart is really a 2-dimensional diagram of the celestial sphere.
That same chart is then depicted as the three dimensional model for the purpose
of defining basic concepts as used with this technique.
Our discussion of the celestial sphere and the whole topic of the Primaries is
discussed conceptually; again, no math or computation is discussed.
For those who are interested in their computation, I will be happy to direct
those individuals to the appropriate sources.
