Quarter 7 - Lesson 2:
What is a Significator and what is a Promittor?

This lesson introduces once again and defines as employed in primaries two technical terms used throughout the writings of Morin on forecasting methods, that of Significator and Promittor. A correct understanding of these two expressions is fundamental and pivotal to the proper application of Primary Directions. We then discuss their number in the natal chart and then go onto the fundamental problem when employing the Primary Direction technique as a forecasting tool: When an event occurs, which planet caused the event?

As my teacher, the late Zoltan Mason taught, "The very difficult problem is to figure out which planet caused the event, i.e. Who is/was the promittor". This problem is at the heart of a successful use of this technique as a forecasting tool.

We use the horoscope of the singer/actress Whitney Houston to illustrate the different significators and promittors as well as to review basic astronomical concepts using a 3-dimensional model of her chart.
