Quarter 7 - Lesson 4: Part 1 - The Problem of the 2-fold Significator and the 2-fold Promittor in the same direction
When directing, my teacher Zoltan Mason cautioned, "The very difficult problem is to figure out which Planet caused the event, i.e, Who is/was the promittor?" The Promittor or agent certainly follows the Significator in the direct method but in converse it precedes. So, with the direct method, preceding terminus assumes the function of the subject affected, but in the following assumes the function of the agent or the one affecting; and in the converse direction, it is the other way around.
This is not allowed both by reason and by experience. The same terminus of a direction cannot and does not assume at the same time the function of a significator and the promittor with respect to the same other terminus following or preceding.
So the issue is, which one of the termini is the Significator and which one the Promittor? Or which represents the affected subject and which the efficient cause? Morin says, "Here we have a most difficult thing as there is no reason to favor one terminus over the other".
This lesson revolves arounf this issue and its content is drawn from AG22, Section 1, Chapter 7, Pages 20 through 29.
